Imagine picnicking on an open highway, bellowing in a library or watching reruns of your favourite sitcom in a fifty-seat cinema. All of this is possible in the world of Rockpocalypse. But with such freedom comes extreme isolation. For the handful of residents who stubbornly continue to call Rockhampton home, the time for hijinks is over, and panic is setting in.
Part dystopian mystery, part town planning simulator, Rockpocalypse asks players to consider the conditions by which their city could become unlivable, before challenging them to work together to do something about it. Delivered as part of her master’s research, local arts practitioner Jessica Lamb will take players on a narrative-building journey through the ruins of Rockhampton to determine an answer to the question: What could the future hold for this big town/small city?
